Gleason continues to get faster & faster
Steady improvement has been the name of the game for Fremont High School junior sprinter Tania Gleason.
After qualifying for the State Track Meet in both the 100 and 200-meter dashes as a freshman (in 2019), where she ran preliminary times of 12.80 and 26.99 respectively, Gleason has already improved her times this year.
Currently, Gleason has posted personal best times of 12.46 in the 100-which has placed her among the Class A leaders in the event-and a personal best time of 26.15 in the 200.
“Tania has shown a lot of improvement as a track athlete since her freshman year,” said Tad Roffers, the head coach of the Fremont girls’ track and field team. “Not only have her times dropped, but she has also expanded her events from the 100 and 200, to also the 400 with a lot of success so far this year.”
Also at State as a freshman, Gleason was a member of the 400-meter relay team that earned the seventh-place medal in a time of 51.72. This year the FHS 400-meter relay team has one of the top times in Class A at 49.98.
Based upon her steady improvement, Gleason has set some lofty goals for herself.
“I want to break some personal records,” said Gleason. “It will be tough, but in the end it will all be worth it.”
Having worked hard to be the best she can be has been pleasing to Gleason.
“It makes me feel that all the hard work is paying off,” said Gleason. “I still have another year here so I’m going to continue to work hard.”
Gleason also said that due to the hard work of everyone on the team, the Tigers are in position to do some special things this season.
“We’re really strong this year everywhere on the team,” said Gleason. “We have what it takes to win the state championship without a doubt.” Story by Jared Knollenberg
